Returning from deployment can be a great time to make a fresh financial start. With new priorities and budget realities to consider, your money will need reintegration, too. Follow these steps to ease your transition and get set up for your next chapter.
Things to take care of right away.
- Create or update your monthly budget to reflect changes in income, expenses and savings. Use our online Monthly Budget Planner.
- Organize your accounts and inventory your assets and liabilities. To make things easy, use our Personal Net Worth Worksheet.
- Review and update your insurance coverage as needed, including health, homeowner's, renter's and auto.
- Create or update your estate plan, including beneficiaries. Creating an Estate Plan.
- Contact credit reporting agencies to remove any active-duty alerts.
- Determine any federal and state tax filing requirements.
- Participate in the DOD Savings Deposit Program (SDP)? Complete a withdrawal request using myPay to close out the account. Get Savings Deposit Plan details.
- Invoke Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) for deployment discounts or benefits? Notify all creditors and lenders of your return.
- Guard and Reserve members: Contact your employer/HR administrator with questions and any special accommodation requests.
