National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education
What do kids need to know to be financially literate? Explore national standards provided by Council for Economic Education (CEE) and Jump$tart, and use them as a guide to create relevant financial lessons.
Aimed at levels K–12, CEE and Jump$tart provide complimentary frameworks for teaching kids of all ages—with specific expectations for grades 4, 8, and 12. In addition, Jump$tart provides expectations for Kindergarten. Educators at every level can use the standards to:
- Determine the age-appropriate information that students should know.
- Provide guidelines for evaluating published educational materials.
- Help shape lesson plans, unit and course outlines, textbook use, field trips, and other learning activities.
- Increase awareness of the need for personal finance education, help organizations improve their current programs, and assist in creating effective new personal finance curricula.
